Basketball Recap: Garland Takes a Loss

Garland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 15th straight loss. They had to suffer through a 84-39 loss at the hands of the Wylie Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Owls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1289th, while the Pirates are ranked 169th).

When it comes to explaining why Garland lost, don't look at Luca Perez. Despite the final result, he posted 13 points. Another player making a difference was Joshua Ibeneme, who put up three points.

Even though they lost, Garland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matchups.

Garland's defeat dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Wylie, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-11 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Lakeview Centennial the next time they take the court. Garland will host Lakeview Centennial at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Wylie will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st.
