Recap: Silver Fighting Colts vs. Mayfield Trojans
The Silver Fighting Colts suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Tuesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 57-31 walloping at the hands of Mayfield. Silver has not had much luck with Mayfield recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, Silver saw an underclassman step up: Nyssa Torres scored 17 points. That's the first time this season that Torres scored 15 or more points.
Silver struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Mayfield pulled down 14 offensive rebounds.
Mayfield was led to victory by Victoria Kirker and Ceanna Mckines. Kirker scored 15 points along with five steals, while Mckines scored 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Kirker scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazlene Ruiz, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Silver's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Mayfield, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2.
Silver will challenge Organ Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Organ Mountain focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Saturday. As for Mayfield, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Hobbs at 2:30 p.m. Hobbs has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 913 points over their last 12 games.
