Basketball Recap: Premont Takes a Loss

Premont lost against Refugio back in February of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Premont Cowboys had to suffer through a 60-10 loss at the hands of the Refugio Bobcats. While losing is never fun, the Cowboys can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1303rd, while the Bobcats are ranked 558th).

Refugio found their leader in freshman Laken Cancino, who posted 27 points and three steals. Cancino has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Bradi Fox-Smith was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Premont has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Refugio, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-4.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing John Paul II the next time they take the court. Refugio will head out to face John Paul II at 11:40 a.m. on Saturday, while Premont will play them later in the day, at 9:00 a.m.
