The John Carroll Catholic Rams will take on the Treasure Coast Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Treasure Coast will be up against a hot John Carroll Catholic squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Rams put the hurt on Vero Beach with a sharp 12-6 victory on Monday. The game was the first time the Rams have beaten the Indians on their field since March 14, 2017.
Makayla Ortiz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Mackenzie Mostoller and Samantha Rychter did most of the damage at the plate: Mostoller went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double, while Rychter scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most hits Mostoller has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Ramirez, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.
John Carroll Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vero Beach only posted an OBP of .250.
Meanwhile, Treasure Coast got themselves on the board against Westwood on Tuesday, but Westwood never followed suit. They blew past the Panthers 16-0. The Titans haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Mia La Terra was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). La Terra was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kathryn Worley, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Valerie Leon, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.
John Carroll Catholic pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Treasure Coast, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. John Carroll Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .360. However, it's not like Treasure Coast struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
