Basketball Recap: Izuchi Nwankwo Key Part of a Team Effort in Cougars Win

There's no place like home for Campion Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They managed a 43-37 victory over the Front Range Baptist Falcons on Tuesday. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the 51-38 win the Falcons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Campion Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Izuchi Nwankwo led the charge by putting up eight points in addition to 16 blocks and three steals. Nwankwo has been hot, having posted three or more blocks the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Marroquin, who went 7 for 9 on his way to 18 points.

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ethan Pierce, who posted five points along with five rebounds and five steals. Those five steals gave Pierce a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nathan Jaques, who had eight points in addition to six boards and five steals.

Campion Academy's victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Front Range Baptist, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-6 record this season.

Campion Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Front Range Baptist, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Denver Waldorf at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
