Baseball Game Preview: Wilsonville Wildcats vs. Churchill Lancers

Wilsonville is 0-4 against Churchill since March of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. The Wildcats will host the Lancers at 5:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Wilsonville sitting on 27 straight victories and Churchill on four.

Wilsonville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Oregon's top teams: Canby, who was ranked 13th at the time (Wilsonville was ranked third). The Wildcats walked away with a 6-2 win over the Cougars on Friday.

Meanwhile, Churchill was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. They skirted past Sheldon 4-3.

Churchill got a great performance from Donovan Jackson as he pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Jackson has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brady Bousquet was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Churchill is undefeated when Bousquet posts two or more runs, but 10-12 otherwise. Chase Hartley was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.

Wilsonville's victory was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 27-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Churchill, they now have a winning record of 13-12.

Wilsonville suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Churchill when the teams last played back in March of 2018. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
