Baseball Game Preview: Ferguson Falcons vs. Southridge Spartans

The Ferguson Falcons will head out on the road to take on the Southridge Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ferguson will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Ferguson and Sunset, and Ferguson kept the tradition alive. The Falcons walked away with a 10-6 victory over the Knights on Tuesday.

The team relied heavily on Anthony Giz, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Erick Leyva, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Ferguson hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four strikeouts batters in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Southridge didn't have quite enough to beat Columbus on Tuesday and fell 4-3. The loss continues a trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Explorers: they've now lost five in a row.

Ferguson pushed their record up to 11-7-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Southridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.

Ferguson couldn't quite finish off Southridge in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 9-7. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
