Basketball Recap: Superior Comes Up Short

Superior was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were outmatched by the Valley Lutheran Flames and fell 43-7. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 45-4 back in December of 2024.

Lilianna Fritz was Superior's leading scorer, having posted seven points. Faith Denogean held things down on the boards with ten rebounds. Stephanie Lopez took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Valley Lutheran's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Natalia Hernandez led the charge by putting up five points in addition to ten steals and seven assists. The dominant performance gave Hernandez a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Anika Winter, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds.

Superior's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Valley Lutheran, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Superior Panthers challenge the Ray Bearcats at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Valley Lutheran, they will face off against Fort Thomas at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Fort Thomas' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests.
