Softball Game Preview: Mayfield Wildcats vs. Madison Blue Streaks

Mayfield hasn't had much luck against Madison recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wildcats will take on the Blue Streaks at 5:00 p.m. Mayfield has given up an average of 8.9 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Mayfield is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Wednesday. They lost 13-1 to Chardon.

Mayfield saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Pinzone, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, Madison got the win against Conneaut on Monday by a conclusive 13-2. The result was nothing new for the Blue Streaks, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Kara Mekulsia made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ally Negin, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gianna LaMarco, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.

Madison always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Conneaut only posted an OBP of .150.

Mayfield's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Madison, their record now sits at 10-3.

Mayfield couldn't quite get it done against Madison when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
