Softball Recap: Batesville Comes Up Short

Batesville extended their losing streak to seven on Friday, dropping their season record down to 2-8 in the process. They lost 12-2 to the Rushville Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-3 on Friday.

Batesville saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cora Roth, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Lucie Cregar also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Rushville, their win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-9. That looming 12-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

On Rushville's side, Kiara Flannery spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ella Bowles, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Becca Tabeling, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Batesville will square off against South Dearborn at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Rushville, they will head out to take on Hauser at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Jets will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight.
