Baseball Game Preview: Elizabeth Bulldogs vs. Marquez Gladiators

For the second straight game, Elizabeth will face off against Marquez. The Bulldogs will take on the Gladiators at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Elizabeth hasn't scored more than a single run for five games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

Marquez hit Elizabeth with a six-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bulldogs came up short against the Gladiators, falling 12-1.

For Marquez's part, Jason Gutierrez was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Diego Papias, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Marquez was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elizabeth only posted a batting average of .150.

Marquez has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Elizabeth, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Elizabeth has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Marquez struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
