Griffith is on a 13-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Hammond Morton is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Panthers will welcome the Governors at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Griffith barely beat Hebron the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers never let the Hawks get on the board and left with a 7-0 win on Monday.
The result came thanks to Cheyanne Fant's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 14 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jaida Wheatley, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Natalie Vianello was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Hammond Morton made easy work of Whiting on Saturday and carried off a 9-3 victory.
Ei'Lani Herrera spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Analiya Felciano was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Daisy Vargas, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
Griffith's win bumped their record up to 19-2. As for Hammond Morton, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Griffith has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .543. However, it's not like Hammond Morton struggles in that department as they've averaged .557. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Griffith was able to grind out a solid win over Hammond Morton in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, winning 14-9. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Governors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
