Basketball Recap: Clint Takes a Loss

Clint lost against Riverside on January 10th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Clint Lions were dealt a 66-31 loss at the hands of the Riverside Rangers. The Lions were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-10.

Defeat or not, Clint got some senior leadership from Davana Carrasco and Anabella Portillo. Carrasco posted nine points and eight boards, while Portillo scored seven points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Clint smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Riverside to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hazel Veloz, who went 6 for 10 en route to 16 points and five steals. Veloz is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Jocelyn Castro was another key player, putting up 17 points and three steals.

The loss snapped Clint's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 20-8 record. As for Riverside, their win was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clint has already played their next matchup (against Mountain View), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Riverside will take on Fabens at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Riverside's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
