Basketball Game Preview: Winfield Pirates vs. Red Bay Tigers

The Winfield Pirates will be taking part in a tournament against the Red Bay Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Winfield: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Red Bay has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.

Last Thursday, Winfield strolled past Haleyville with points to spare, taking the game 66-48.

Meanwhile, Red Bay was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 57-52 to Obion County.

Despite the defeat, Red Bay saw an underclassman step up: freshman Khalil Luster dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 boards. Luster is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games he's played.

Red Bay has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-6 record this season. As for Winfield, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.

Winfield couldn't quite finish off Red Bay when the teams last played on December 5th and fell 61-59. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Luster, who went 9 of 11 on his way to 21 points and eight rebounds. Now that Winfield knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
