Basketball Game Preview: Walden Grove Red Wolves vs. Canyon del Oro Dorados

Walden Grove is 0-10 against Canyon del Oro since December of 2014 but things could change on Saturday. Having just played yesterday, the Walden Grove Red Wolves will jump right back in to play the Canyon del Oro Dorados at 1:30 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Walden Grove saw some tournament action on Friday. They took a hard 55-38 fall against Arizona Lutheran Academy.

Meanwhile, Canyon del Oro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Amphitheater, falling 49-25. That's two games in a row now that the Dorados have lost by exactly 24 points.

Walden Grove will have to keep a close watch on Gianna Kokoskie and Payton Helphinstine, a pair of players who had a big impact on Canyon del Oro's prior game. Kokoskie posted five points and 11 rebounds, while Helphinstine put up nine points. Kokoskie is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Sloane Kinlacheeny, who had three points.

Canyon del Oro's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Walden Grove, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4.

Walden Grove and Canyon del Oro were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but Walden Grove came up empty-handed after a 41-40 defeat. Thankfully for Walden Grove, Halie Fuller (who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
