Softball Game Preview: Chaparral Pumas vs. Great Oak Wolfpack

Chaparral hasn't had much luck against Great Oak recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Pumas will venture away from home to challenge the Wolfpack at 3:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Saturday, Chaparral needed a bit of extra time to put away Lakeside. They had just enough and edged out the Lancers 10-9. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Pumas considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Keira Beierly was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Laney Olsen was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Chaparral kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 22 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 11.2.

Meanwhile, Great Oak came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Pumas by a score of 6-2. That's two games straight that the Wolfpack have won by exactly four runs.

Great Oak pushed their record up to 14-6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Chaparral, their victory bumped their record up to 4-15.

Chaparral came up short against Great Oak in their previous meeting on Friday, falling 6-2. Can the Pumas avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
