Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Fitz Guinan and Oryon Huayhualla Lead Coconino to Victory

Coconino won the last time they faced Mingus and things went their way on Thursday too. The Coconino Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 73-70 win over the Mingus Marauders. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while the Marauders are ranked 214th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Coconino was led to victory by Oryon Huayhualla and Fitz Guinan. Huayhualla dropped a double-double on 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Guinan went 8 of 19 en route to 23 points and six boards. Those 23 points gave Guinan a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Parker, who posted five points and five rebounds.

Coconino smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Coconino has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Mingus, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-13.

Coconino didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-49 victory against Lee Williams on the 24th. As for Mingus, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 62-45 loss against Bradshaw Mountain on the 24th.
