No. 1 Auburn avoids upset bid; No. 4 Skyline wins showdown with No. 2 Issaquah; Wroten to make his decision next week.

Prep sports news from Washington:

1. Jackson's Kingma picks Oregon: Brett Kingma had vists from BYU and Oregon on Thursday. The next day, he picked Oregon. Kingma, a 6-foot-1 shooter, will have a family rivalry with his sister Kristi, who plays basketball for Washington. Kingma led Jackson (Mill Creek) to the Class 4A state title game. He told the Everett Herald that Oregon is, "far enough away from home that I can grow up, but close enough that I can watch my little brother and sister grow up."

2. No. 1 Auburn escapes: Max Pratt scored from a yard out as the No. 1 Trojans (4-0) capped a 99-yard drive with 20 seconds remaining to foil the upset bid of 1-3 Tahoma (Kent), 31-27. Austin Embody had 173 yards on nine carries for Auburn.

3. No. 4 Skyline beats No. 2 Issaquah: In the biggest game of the weekend, Max Browne passed for 271 yards and two touchdowns on 22 of 33 passing for Skyline (Sammamish). Browne ran for two more scores as the Spartans (3-1) crushed Issaquah (3-1) in a KingCo Conference showdown, 35-6.

Wroten is reported to choose between Washington, Louisville, Villanova, Connecticut and Seattle.

NATE'S NOTES
October is my favorite time of the year. I like walking the sideline at high school football games while there is a bite in the air. Cross country meets with orange, red and yellow leaves are the best. Fall, especially in this state, is the best.

It's also a busy month. Football races go from beginning to decided. State tournaments are ready to start when it's over. This is the month where things are decided.
