Preview: Dominion Academy Sabers vs. East Dayton Christian
The Dominion Academy Sabers will head out on the road to face off against East Dayton Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Dominion Academy is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than East Dayton Christian in Ohio (Dominion Academy is ranked 324th, while East Dayton Christian is ranked 732nd).
Last Saturday, Dominion Academy ended up a good deal behind Varsity Opponent and lost 59-43. Dominion Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Dominion Academy's defeat came about despite a quality game from Elijah Heerdt, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. The game was Heerdt's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Luke Campbell, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, East Dayton Christian's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Shroder Paideia Academy, falling 57-20. East Dayton Christian was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-11.
East Dayton Christian's loss came about despite a quality game from Damir Walder, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for him.
Dominion Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for East Dayton Christian, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-7.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Dominion Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 38.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for East Dayton Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 24.8 rebounds per game. Given Dominion Academy's sizeable advantage in that area, East Dayton Christian will need to find a way to close that gap.
Dominion Academy took a serious blow against East Dayton Christian when the teams last played back in February of 2021, falling 94-47. Thankfully for Dominion Academy, Chapman Faulkner (who shot 6-for-16 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 41 points and 14 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time.
