Softball Recap: South Gate Takes a Loss

South Gate dropped down to 9-9 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 15-0 to the Garfield Bulldogs. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Rams' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Garfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games.

For Garfield's part, Clara Villalpando was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Villalpando has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Eliana Lopez looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Garfield got a massive performance out of Valerie Valencia, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits Valencia has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Rosalie Aguilera, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles.

While South Gate had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
