Basketball Preview: Eastern Randolph Wildcats vs. Wheatmore Warriors
Having just played yesterday, the Eastern Randolph Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Wheatmore Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Eastern Randolph knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matches -- so hopefully Wheatmore likes a good challenge.
Eastern Randolph took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They breezed by Providence Grove to the tune of 82-32. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 59-20.
Meanwhile, Wheatmore played a tough contest on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 69-45 to Uwharrie Charter Academy. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Eastern Randolph will need focus on slowing down Parker Kines, one of several Wheatmore players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 14 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Weston Driggers, who scored seven points in addition to seven boards and four blocks.
Wheatmore's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Eastern Randolph, they moved to 8-6 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Everything came up roses for Eastern Randolph against Wheatmore in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the squad secured an 85-40 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Eastern Randolph since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
