Softball Recap: Western Reserve Blue Devils vs. Springfield Tigers

Western Reserve extended their losing streak to 14 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-15 in the process. They lost 17-4 to the Springfield Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-1 on Monday.

As for Springfield, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-9. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

For Springfield's part, Caitlin Blankenship looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, Blankenship posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, Gina Romeo was incredible, going 2-for-3 with six RBI, two triples, and three runs. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Giuliana Battaglini, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Western Reserve will head out on the road to challenge Aquinas at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.4 runs per game on average), something the Blue Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Springfield, they will welcome Liberty at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
