Basketball Recap: Hillcrest Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Skylynn Salazar-Bell and Amelia Lepore

Hillcrest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against the Murray Spartans, falling 51-27. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 56-21 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Hillcrest had strong showings from Amelia Lepore, who posted six points, and Skylynn Salazar-Bell, who scored no points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Salazar-Bell a new career-high in boards.

Murray found their leader in sophomore Brooklyn Richter, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 18 rebounds. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for Richter. Another player making a difference was Bonnie Henricksen, who had 11 points along with five boards and three steals.

Hillcrest's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Murray, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-11.

Hillcrest has already played their next match, a 46-30 win against Summit Academy on the 21st. As for Murray, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-37 loss against Jordan on the 21st.
