Recap: Lisbon Broncos vs. Oakes Tornadoes
The Lisbon Broncos lost against the Oakes Tornadoes back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Lisbon fell to Oakes 40-34. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lisbon in their matchups with Oakes: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the loss, Lisbon saw an underclassman step up: Tarynn Gilbert almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyra Haecherl, who scored five points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Oakes' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lily Thorpe led the charge by scoring eight points along with seven rebounds. Brianna Schmitz was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.
Oakes' lineup was just a bit different on Monday as Jocelyn Quandt got a bit more time on the court (21 vs. her season average of 7.56). Quandt made the most of the opportunity, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
Lisbon has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season. As for Oakes, their victory bumped their record up to 13-6.
Lisbon's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Carrington at 7:00 p.m. on February 8th. Hopefully Lisbon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Monday. Oakes does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
