Basketball Game Preview: McComb Panthers vs. Ayersville Pilots

The McComb Panthers will take on the Ayersville Pilots in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in McComb's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Ayersville has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

McComb is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They walked away with a 65-52 win over Waynesfield-Goshen on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Ayersville played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Defiance, falling 62-38.

McComb will need focus on slowing down Avery Knueven, one of several Ayersville players who made an impact when they last played. She posted eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendyl Booher, who put up four points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Ayersville was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Ayersville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for McComb, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.

Things could have been worse for McComb, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 57-43 loss to Ayersville in their previous matchup back in December of 2023.
