Softball Game Preview: Cape Henry Collegiate Dolphins vs. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints

Cape Henry Collegiate hasn't had much luck against Nansemond-Suffolk Academy recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Dolphins will look to defend their home field against the Saints at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Cape Henry Collegiate extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Dolphins were the clear victors by a 16-3 margin over Catholic. That's two games straight that the Dolphins have won by exactly 13 runs.

Cape Henry Collegiate got a massive performance out of Macie Konikoff, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Konikoff is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Leylana Dininny, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.

Cape Henry Collegiate was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's fifth consecutive shutout on Thursday. They never let Catholic get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Cape Henry Collegiate, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
