Softball Game Preview: Penfield Patriots vs. Fairport Red Raiders

Penfield is 2-8 against Fairport since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Patriots will look to defend their home field against the Red Raiders at 5:00 p.m. Penfield is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

Penfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Greece Odyssey 18-3 on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Meanwhile, Fairport scored first but ultimately less than Fayetteville-Manlius in their contest on Saturday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hornets. The Red Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Leila Hernandez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on nine hits.

Fairport's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Penfield, the win also got them back to even at 5-5.

Penfield suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Fairport in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
