Basketball Recap: Mathias Baye Key Part of Team Effort in Eagles Win

Marian lost to Empowering Others Prep back in January, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Marian Eagles enjoyed a cozy 81-66 win over the Empowering Others Prep Kings. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Kings are ranked 302nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Marian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mathias Baye, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was Baye's fourth in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Seydina Gadiaga, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 12 boards.

Marian was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Marian's victory bumped their record up to 22-9. As for Empowering Others Prep, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 19-20 record this season.

Marian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Empowering Others Prep, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 87-57 defeat against Xavier Educational Academy on the 22nd.
