Softball Game Preview: Foley Lions vs. Daphne Trojans

Foley is 0-10 against Daphne since May of 2022 but things could change on Thursday. The Lions will look to defend their home field against the Trojans at 7:00 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Foley came up short against Vina and fell 9-6.

Meanwhile, Daphne entered their tilt with Apollo on Wednesday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 10-0 shutout. The Trojans' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last four games.

Victoria Moten made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 17 over six innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Daphne got a massive performance out of Hannah Newport, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Abby J Johnson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-5.

Daphne's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Foley, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.
