Basketball Recap: Fayetteville Starts Season with Defeat on the Road + How To Watch

Fayetteville had to start their season on the road on Monday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They were outmatched by the Shelby County Wildcats and fell 67-30. The Wolves lost against the Wildcats in their previous head to head back in January of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 64-53 score last time.

Landon Thomas and Brody Usrey certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Thomas shot 55% from the field en route to 15 points and eight rebounds, while Usrey posted eight points and eight boards. Thomas is on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 55% in the last four games he's played dating back to last season.

Shelby County has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Coming up, Fayetteville will look to defend their home court on Monday against Wellborn at 7:30 p.m. As for Shelby County, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Center Point at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats will be up against the Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 67.75 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
