Basketball Recap: Foothill Falls Short Against Ranked Liberty

On Tuesday, Foothill faced Liberty in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Foothill Falcons lost to the Liberty Patriots on the road by a 73-58 margin. The Falcons have struggled against the Patriots recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Foothill lost, don't look at Dejon Townsend. Despite the final result, he went 10 for 16 en route to 20 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. That's the most points Townsend has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cordet Espinoza, who posted six points.

Leading Liberty to victory were Jaden Riley and Evan Hilliard. Riley scored 19 points, while Hilliard had 13 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Daylen Dove also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Foothill's loss dropped their record down to 10-16. As for Liberty, they now have a winning record of 11-10.

Foothill will welcome Centennial at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Centennial's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 16 matchups. As for Liberty, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-50 win against Desert Pines on the 5th.
