Softball Game Preview: Aptos Mariners vs. Soquel Knights

The Aptos Mariners will take on the Soquel Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Aptos is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

Aptos lost a heartbreaker the last time they played San Lorenzo Valley, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's match. The Mariners put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 9-2 victory on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mariners.

Mya Najera-White spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Emma Burgueno was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Bailey Fulton, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Soquel came up short against San Lorenzo Valley on Tuesday, falling 15-9.

Aptos pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Soquel, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Everything went Aptos' way against Soquel in their previous matchup back in March, as Aptos made off with a 14-8 win. Will the Mariners repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
