Baseball Recap: Palmview Extends Home Winning Streak to 17

Palmview barely beat Mission the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lobos' pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 10-0 shutout on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Lobos, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Osi Lopez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. Lopez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Jaxzel Cantu was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Adrian Martinez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Palmview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matches.

Palmview's victory was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Mission, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Palmview will face off against Gregory-Portland at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Mission, they will challenge Rio Grande City at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rattlers will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
