Baseball Game Preview: Springfield Southeast Spartans vs. Williamsville Bullets

Springfield Southeast hasn't had much luck against Williamsville recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Spartans will challenge the Bullets at 10:00 a.m. Williamsville took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Springfield Southeast, who comes in off a win.

Springfield Southeast's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They came out on top against Pekin by a score of 5-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.

The result came thanks to B Pittman's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Springfield Southeast is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 6-15 otherwise.

On the hitting side, E Murphy was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. T Herrington was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Williamsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Springfield. That's two games in a row now that the Bullets have lost by just one run.

Williamsville's defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Springfield Southeast, their win bumped their record up to 9-16.

Springfield Southeast couldn't quite get it done against Williamsville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-2. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
