Softball Recap: Spring Creek Comes Up Short

Spring Creek extended their losing streak to seven on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 10-15 in the process. They came up short against the Fernley Vaqueros, falling 14-1. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Vaqueros this season, with their most recent defeat being a 15-1 loss on Saturday.

Spring Creek saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was MacKenzie Morfin, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for Fernley, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

On Fernley's side, Taylor Tollestrup was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Tollestrup is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sara Moffett, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Spring Creek will face off against Churchill County at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans are facing the Greenwave at the right time seeing as the Greenwave are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Fernley, they are taking a road trip to take on North Valleys at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something the Vaqueros surely won't give up without a fight.
