Softball Game Preview: Sunlake Seahawks vs. Lecanto Panthers

The Sunlake Seahawks will take on the Lecanto Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Lecanto will be up against a hot Sunlake team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Seahawks never let Auburn Riverside get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory on Thursday. Considering the Seahawks have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Sydney Walker looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Emily Ward was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Lively, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Lecanto made easy work of Nature Coast Tech on Tuesday and carried off a 6-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

Abigail Males made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. Males was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

Males wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Savannah LaChance, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Lecanto's victory bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Sunlake, their win bumped their record up to 13-6.

Sunlake skirted past Lecanto 5-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Seahawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
