Softball Recap: Santa Clara Now 3-1 over Last Four Games

Santa Clara came out on top against Bishop Diego on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Saints never let the Cardinals get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory. Considering the Saints have won four matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Kadyn Sanchez, who gave up just a hit and racked up 16 Ks to keep Bishop Diego off the board. Sanchez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sophia Grace Castorena and Sophia Romero did most of the damage at the plate: Castorena went 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Romero went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Castorena has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcie Acosta, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.

Santa Clara was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Diego only posted a batting average of .045.

Santa Clara is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Diego, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-9.

Santa Clara wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 5-1 loss against Grace on the 5th. As for Bishop Diego, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 9-6 defeat against Coastal Christian on the 1st.
