Baseball Recap: Bear River Has No Trouble Against Grantsville

Bear River won the last time they faced Grantsville and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Bears blew past the Cowboys 10-1. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Holden Potter was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bear River is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise. Potter was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Broxton Gardner, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jackson Barfuss, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Bear River has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Grantsville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bear River will face off against Century at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Diamondbacks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.75 runs per game on average), something the Bears will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Grantsville, they will challenge Ben Lomond at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
