Baseball Game Preview: St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors vs. St. Genevieve Valiants

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy is 1-9 against St. Genevieve since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Warriors will be playing at home against the Valiants at 3:15 p.m. St. Genevieve took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy, who comes in off a win.

While St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy's victory against Glenn wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Warriors skirted past the Eagles 8-6. That's two games straight that the Warriors have won by exactly two runs.

Nathan Jimenez tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Angel Garcia, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Rios, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, St. Genevieve was not able to break out of their rough patch on April 10th as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against de Toledo, falling 8-0.

The win made it two in a row for St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy and bumps their season record up to 7-14. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for St. Genevieve, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-13.

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy beat St. Genevieve 4-1 in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Valiants have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
