Softball Recap: Rittman Indians vs. Waynedale Golden Bears
Rittman had lost seven straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 4-16 to make it eight. They fell just short of the Waynedale Golden Bears by a score of 5-3. The defeat was just more heartbreak for the Indians who fell 6-4 when the teams previously met back in April of 2024.
Lillian Halliwell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Rittman saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Allison Hollabaugh, who went 1-for-4 with one double. Ariel Daughtery was another, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.
As for Waynedale, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.
On Waynedale's side, Madi Miller was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rittman will square off against Woodridge at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Waynedale, they will head out to challenge Hillsdale at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Golden Bears' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
