After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Westbrook, Ira was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Marfa Shorthorns as they made off with a 13-2 victory. Considering the Bulldogs have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Chloe Juarez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Ira got a massive performance out of Edith Cabrera, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Cabrera hit this season. Another player making a difference was Makali Pechacek, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.
Ira always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .679. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Ira's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 8-4. As for Marfa, they dropped their record down to 0-5 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
