The Marathon Dolphins will challenge the Miami Country Day Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Marathon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 15.7 runs per game this season.
Marathon gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Ransom Everglades 22-10. The Dolphins haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Sara Robinson made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run over four innings pitched. Robinson was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Maeve Merryman was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in February. Shynell McGuire was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Marathon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .689. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three games, Miami Country Day finally came back down to earth on Tuesday. They fell 5-2 to Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart. The Spartans' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Collins Ames spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Miami Country Day saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gracey Mccoy, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Emma Romanik also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Marathon's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Miami Country Day, their loss dropped their record down to 7-2.
Miami Country Day's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Marathon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .437. It's a different story for Miami Country Day, though, as they've only averaged .257. Will they be able to contain Marathon's hitters?
