Baseball Game Preview: Fort Calhoun Pioneers vs. Platte Valley

Fort Calhoun hasn't had much luck against Platte Valley recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Pioneers will face off against Platte Valley at 4:30 p.m. Fort Calhoun is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Fort Calhoun's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against Arlington by a score of 3-0. The Pioneers haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Arlington's batters probably weren't too happy with Levi Lasher, who pitched a no hitter (he gave up two walks).

On the hitting side, Fort Calhoun's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Eli Tinkham, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave Tinkham a new career-high. Sam Genoways also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Platte Valley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Douglas County West 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Platte Valley has posted since May 2, 2024.

Fort Calhoun's record now sits at 5-1. As for Platte Valley, their record is now 2-5.
