Alex Phillips turned in yet another pitching appearance with more than ten strikeouts on Monday. He struck out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of South Pittsburg's success: when he posts at least ten strikeouts the team is 3-1 (and 7-15 when he doesn't).

Phillips' effort led South Pittsburg over Van Buren County and he'll get a chance to do so again: the teams have a rematch scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The Pirates are 9-1 against the Eagles going back to April of 2021, a lead they'll look to extend.
