Basketball Recap: Economedes Takes a Loss

Economedes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 72-20 loss at the hands of the Weslaco Panthers. The contest marked the Jaguars' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Economedes still got an impressive performance from Aniel Solis, who posted six points and eight rebounds. Solis has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Isaiah Martinez also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

It was another big night for Pete Cantu, who made all 6 shots he took for 12 points along with five assists and five boards for Weslaco. That's the most assists Cantu has posted since back in November of 2024. JD Martinez was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Economedes' defeat dropped their record down to 15-17. As for Weslaco, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 23-8 record this season.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Economedes Jaguars take on the Edinburg North Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Raul Palacios and Nathaniel De La Garza. As for Weslaco, they will venture away from home to face off against La Joya at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with La Joya sitting on three straight victories and Weslaco on six.
