John Paul II came tearing into Friday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Incarnate Word Academy Angels by a score of 38-30. This was a revenge game for the Centurions: when they faced off against the Angels back in December of 2024, they had to take a 47-45 loss.

Leading John Paul II to victory were Ella Garcia and Grace Becker. Garcia went 7 of 17 en route to 19 points and five rebounds, while Becker posted six points in addition to nine boards and four blocks. Garcia has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sophia Ramirez, who had three points and seven boards.

John Paul II smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Incarnate Word Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Sarah Cory and Isabelle Doucet. Cory scored eight points and five rebounds, while Doucet earned two points.

John Paul II is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 18-12 record this season. As for Incarnate Word Academy, they moved to 12-16 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. John Paul II will welcome Geneva at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (John Paul II has won five straight at home, while Geneva won six straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Incarnate Word Academy, they will host Annapolis Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Incarnate Word Academy is facing Annapolis Christian Academy at the right time seeing as Annapolis Christian Academy is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
