Baseball Preview: Berkeley Yellowjackets vs. Encinal Jets

The Berkeley Yellowjackets will take on the Encinal Jets at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Berkeley 3.4, Encinal 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Berkeley is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Castro Valley just ended the team's 14-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 8-5 to the Trojans.

Quinton Hill was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Akanni Owodunni made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Meanwhile, Encinal didn't have quite enough to beat Liberty on Wednesday and fell 3-1. The Jets haven't had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Encinal also got a good showing from Darren Olson, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.

At the plate, Encinal saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matan Antebi, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Encinal's defeat dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Berkeley, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 15-2-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Berkeley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Encinal struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Berkeley couldn't quite get it done against Encinal in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 as they fell 6-2. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
