Basketball Recap: Kennedy Catholic Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Kennedy Catholic can now relate to. They took a 50-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Moore Catholic Mavericks on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Gaels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Mavericks are ranked fifth).

Moore Catholic's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brianna Caliri, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 13 boards. That's the most rebounds Caliri has posted since back in December of 2024. Emma Costanzo was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Kennedy Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 19-7. As for Moore Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-2 record this season.

Kennedy Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Moore Catholic will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Fontbonne Hall Academy at 7:30 p.m. on March 7th.
