Softball Recap: Tustin Takes a Loss

Westminster hit Tustin with a six-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tillers lost 10-2 to the Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in April.

Emery Diaz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered ten runs (all of which were unearned) on ten hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Tustin saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izzy Villareal, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. That double marked the first that Villareal has hit this season.

Tustin's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Westminster, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-11 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tustin will head out to challenge Godinez Fundamental at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Westminster, they will venture away from home to face off against Katella at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
