Houston took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Russia, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildcats had just enough and edged out the Raiders 5-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Makenna Vondenhuevel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Madison Plunkett was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March.

Houston's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Russia, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Houston will face off against Coldwater at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Russia, they will challenge Anna at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
